Wollaston Medal

The Wollaston Medal is an award that is awarded by the Geological Society of London to scientists for outstanding achievements in the field of geology.

The medal is named after the English chemist William Hyde Wollaston ( 1766-1828 ). It was first awarded in 1831., Originally consisting of palladium, a metal that Wollaston had discovered.
