World Chess Championship 1937
The World Chess Championship 1937 was a rematch between the World Champion Max Euwe and Alekhine Alexander his predecessor. Alekhine to regain the title succeeded.
Prehistory
After Euwe had won the world title fight in 1935 against Alekhine, he agreed to give him a rematch. This was by no means self-evident; Alekhine himself had his predecessor Capablanca denied such a rematch. It was the last world title fight, in which the reigning world champion was in control of the title and was able to fix the modalities.
Organization and rules
It was played in several cities of the Netherlands. Winner should be the one who would have achieved first 15 ½ points and 6 won games.
Course
The match lasted from 5 October to 4 December 1937. Until the 20th game ( Score 9:11 ) Euwe could make largely offset the match. But then he conceded four defeats in five games and was subject to a correspondingly significant.
Follow
Alekhine retained the world title until his death in 1946, to discharge without another world championship fight. He was succeeded by Mikhail Botvinnik, who won the World Cup tournament in 1948.
