World Federation of Democratic Youth

The socialist- oriented World Federation of Democratic Youth ( WFDY ) was founded on 10 November 1945, the World Youth Conference in London. The aim of the recognized by the United Nations as an international non-governmental youth organization WFDY is the merging of young people from around the world to exchange experiences, to debate and to fight against racism, fascism and militarism and for peace and international solidarity.

The WFDY includes over 150 member organizations ( by its own account in 2012 over 270 ) from 109 countries, representing around 30 million young people. These youth organizations are communist or socialist -oriented and / or they belong to national and anti-colonial liberation movements.

The WFDY is the main carrier taking place at irregular intervals World Festival of Youth and Students. The first World Festival 1947 took place in Prague. For the 60th anniversary, there was a big celebration in Caracas in 2007.

After the WFDY 1990/91 almost completely collapsed by the collapse of the Soviet Union, 1997 World Festival were carried out in the Socialist Republic of Cuba for the first time. The supreme body is the general meeting of WFDY ( to 1957 World Congress ), which meets every 3 years.

Member organizations

The representative of Germany in WFDY are the Socialist German Workers' Youth ( SDAJ ), and the Free German Youth ( FDJ). The Austrian representative of the Communist Youth of Austria ( KJÖ ). The Swiss Communist Youth of the Party of Switzerland work has emerged in the early 1990s.
