The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1227 as a possession of the monastery of St. George at Prague Castle. Later owners were Mr. Kotz of Dobrz, the city Vimperk and Peter Wok von Rosenberg. This sold the village in 1569 to the Grandpriorat the chivalric Order of Malta in Strakonitz. In the second half of the 17th century the village belonged to the Knights of Malowetz Malovice. In 1681 the Prague provost Johann Ignatz bought Baron Chanowsky Dlauhowesky Langendorf Zahortschitz by Christoph Malowetz of Malovice and joined it to his estate Kraselov. After he had yet acquired the estate in 1697 Niemtschitz, Zahortschitz was submissive by Niemtschitz. On January 10, 1701 he finally united testamentary goods Niemtschitz and Hoděgow with the Good Krasilau to a Fideikommiss for his nephew Adam Joseph Freiherr Chanowsky Krasylowsky Dlauhowesky Langendorf. This remained afterwards always in possession of the Barons Chanowsky Krasylowsky Dlauhowesky Langendorf. In 1840 Zahorčitz consisted of 34 houses with 197 inhabitants. 33 houses belonged to the estate Niemtschitz and one to rule Strakonitz. In the village there was a tavern. Vicarage was Krasilau. Until the mid-19th century Zahorčitz always remained the Fideikommissgut Niemtschitz including Krasilau submissive.

After the abolition of patrimonial Zahořice / Zahorčitz formed in 1850 a part of the community Jetišov in the District Commission Strakonice and the jurisdiction Volyně. From 1880 the village was formed under the name of a Záhorčice own community. In 1920, 270 people lived in the village, in the town, there was a public house and a primary school.
