1985 CONCACAF Championship

The CONCACAF Nations Cup in 1985 was the ninth playout of the continental championship in football for North, Central America and the Caribbean was held from 11 August to 14th September. For the first time the competition was held without the host country, in home and away matches and was the same for the fourth time in a row, qualifying for the World Cup.

Canada qualified for the World Cup for the first time. Mexico did not participate in this tournament, as it was automatically qualified as host of the FIFA World Cup 1986 for this.

Qualification

Guatemala received a bye. All other 16 teams played in the first knockout round, in home and away matches of eight winners. These formed with Guatemala three groups of three, which came three finishers on.
