2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships

The 37th Canoe Sprint World Championships were held from 12th to 16th August, 2009 Dartmouth ( Nova Scotia ) (Canada ) instead. The event was organized by the International Canoe Federation.

There competitions were held in canoe racing in 27 disciplines. Were included in the program the relay competitions on 4x200 meters in one kayak of women and men as well as the one-man canoes of men, for it accounted for over the previous World Cup program of four kayak of women over 1000 and of men over 500 meters and the four - Canadians of men over 500 meters.

Among the favorites were the German canoe racing team and by the Hungarian team that had won in the previous World Championships 2007 nine titles. Ultimately, the German team was able to prevail with seven title wins against Belarus and Hungary.

The first time ever as part of the Canoe World Championships also held competitions for the disabled, where 40 athletes from 13 nations participated. As a demonstration race, there were also competitions in Canadian women.

Successful canoeist Katalin Kovács was the 2009 World Championships in Hungary. The exceptional athlete won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medals. They won all 2009 world title on the three Olympic canoeing disciplines (K1, K2 and K4 of women). This was succeeded last Kovács at the Canoe World Championships in 2002 and 2003.
