Race course

The beginning of the stage was marked by numerous attacks of smaller and larger groups, among whom were Sylvain Chavanel was several times. On the ascent to the Col d' Aubisque Hushovd launched an attack, which the group fell apart. Only Roy caught up with Hushovd. They were followed by a few seconds behind David Moncoutié and Boasson Hagen.
