The 8th stage of the Tour de France 2011 on July 9, led about 189 km from Aigurande to Super Besse -Sancy. Race course

A few kilometers after the start sat from Christophe Riblon, the eight other riders followed, with the race pace was high, and the BMC Racing Team took over the chase. The point of the first mountain stage won Julien El Farès while Riblon secured the 20 points at the intermediate sprint. Vinokourov fought his way further forward, where he caught Riblon, Gautier and van Garderen. Costa remained meanwhile at the top and won the stage victory.

Behind Costa also Vinokourov fell back again, attack as in the main group Alberto Contador, followed by Cadel Evans. Ultimately, however, sat down by Philippe Gilbert, who regained the green jersey with the second place. Thor Hushovd, who had come to the finish with the group, retained the yellow jersey.
