The Grand Prix of Korea in 2012 took place on 14 October at the Korean International Circuit in Yeongam place and was the 16th race of the Formula 1 season in 2012.

Background
After the Japanese Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso led the drivers' standings with 4 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 37 points on Kimi Raikkonen. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull -Renault led with 41 points ahead of McLaren -Mercedes and Ferrari on 61 points.
At the Grand Prix of Korea presented Pirelli riders the tire compounds P Zero soft (yellow) and P Zero Supersoft (red ) and for wet Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue ) are available.
With Alonso and Vettel all former winners competed for this Grand Prix.
As race officials acted Martin Donnelly (GBR ), Paul Gutjahr (SUI ), Jang Sung Kuk (KOR ) and Vincenzo Spano ( VEN).
Training
In the first free practice session, Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap before Alonso and Mark Webber. In this training Jules Bianchi to Force India of Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas Williams by Bruno Senna, Giedo van der Garde took the Caterham of Vitaly Petrov and Dani Clos HRT of Narain Karthikeyan. In the second free practice Vettel was the fastest pilot in front of his team-mate Webber and Alonso. In the third free practice Vettel stayed ahead. Hamilton finished second ahead of his teammate Jenson Button.
Qualifying
In the first phase of qualifying Vettel posted the fastest lap. The HRT, Marussia and Caterham pilots and Senna retired from. In the second segment Vettel stayed ahead. The Toro Rosso and Sauber drivers and Pastor Maldonado, Paul di Resta and Button dropped out. In the third section, Webber claimed pole position ahead of Vettel and Hamilton.
Race
Even before the first corner, Vettel went from second place starting past his team-mate Webber. Although Webber tried on the next line a counter-attack, but he was on the wrong side and thus remained at the second position. Through the duel between the Red Bull drivers Hamilton was, which was a good start, handicapped, so Alonso took over the third position. In midfield, Kamui Kobayashi was clamped before the third curve between Button and Nico Rosberg, misjudged the braking point and collided with the two. Button retired with a broken suspension directly from Rosberg suffered a lap later a radiator damage and fell out, Kobayashi was after 16 laps on the box. Previously, Kobayashi was penalized with a drive-through penalty.
Vettel broke away at the top of some of Webber, behind which formed a somewhat larger gap to third-placed Alonso. The phase of the first pit stops changed nothing in the front positions, Vettel goal for his lead over Webber successively. In the top group also Sergio Pérez was, who was not yet change the tires, and was overtaken by his pitstop of several pilots on new tires. While Pedro de la Rosa for safety reasons - his DRS no longer worked for - gave up the race, Felipe Massa sat in the front part of the field through against Hamilton and took the fourth position. Shortly after Hamilton dropped back behind Raikkonen, however, he managed to counter and retrieve the position. A little later, Hamilton went to the box and pulled in front of his pit stop.
About eight laps after Hamilton completed the top group their second pit stops. Vettel remained longest outside and kept the lead. Vettel had a lead of almost nine seconds on Webber. Behind the first four pilots formed a larger gap. Massa, who was lying in fourth place behind Alonso, showed up with fast laps, but he was indirectly prompted by his race engineer Rob Smedley: approaching too close to Alonso. Alonso had graining and drove to protect the tires a bit slower. In the meantime, succeeded in overtaking Hulkenberg with a drive past the same time to Romain Grosjean and Hamilton. Hamilton graduated shortly after another pit stop.
In the closing stages of the race, the Toro Rosso drivers work together. Daniel Ricciardo was in eighth place ahead of Jean - Éric Vergne and Hamilton. As Ricciardo degraded slightly, he let them go Vergne without problems to allow his team the eighth position. Vettel took the victory with the lead in the world championship of Alonso, who dropped back to second place. Raikkonen remained unchanged at the third position. In the constructors Red Bull -Renault remained in the lead. Ferrari went to McLaren -Mercedes over to the second position
