Arquata Scrivia

Arquata Scrivia ( Arquà Piedmontese, Ligurian arquà, in the local dialect auqua ) is a municipality with 6141 (as of 31 December 2012) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL ), Region Piedmont.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 248 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of ​​23,36 & nbspkm ². Through the municipal area of ​​the river Scrivia flows.

The municipality consists of the villages Rigoroso, Varinella and Vocemola. The neighboring municipalities are Gavi, Grondona, Isola del Cantone (GE), Serravalle Scrivia and Vignole Borbera.

The patron saint of the town is Santa Maria Assunta.

History

On August 6, 1917 derailed from unknown cause in Arquata Scrivia station of the express train from Genoa to Milan. Three cars overturned, and three more were smashed. 34 people died and 100 were injured.
