Athlon is a registered trademark of the microprocessor manufacturer AMD. AMD introduced the name for the first time in 1999 and sold until 2002 processor family under this name. Due to the success of this brand chose AMD in the subsequent period in the desktop segment repeatedly product names based on the brand name Athlon. In 2007 it was announced that AMD will put the future of the brand name Phenom processors for the K10 generation. But the brand name Athlon processors will continue for the cheaper price segments use.
