The Phenom II from AMD is a multi-core processor for desktop computers; he is a representative of the K10 generation. AMD changed the Phenom II when naming first of a four - to a dreiziffriges system.

  • 5.2.1 Deneb
  • 5.3.1 Heka
  • 5.4.1 Callisto

History

The first models of the Phenom II, AMD ago on 8 January 2009. Phenom II X4 920 and 940 were designed for Socket AM2 , so that the DDR3 memory controller has been disabled. Only the Phenom II X4 810 was the first model that came on February 9, 2009 for the AM3 socket on the market.

On 27 April 2010, AMD introduced the two new processors Thuban series. These have six processor cores and a feature called Turbo Core, which increases the clock speed of up to three cores from 2.8 to 3.3 GHz and from 3.2 to 3.6 GHz. Thus, the cores can increase their clock, at least three cores in the C1 sleep mode ( stop) must be contained.

Errata

For CPUs in the C2 stepping is recommended to build in when using DDR3 -1333 only one DIMM per memory channel ( dual-channel ), or, if fully equipped, two DIMMs per channel to only install DDR3 -1066 and DDR3 reduce 1333 clock to DDR3 -1066 clock as it may lead to unreliable operation at full assembly with DDR3 -1333 in the C2 - stepping. In the C3 stepping and a reliable operation is ensured with full configuration with DDR3 -1333.

Others

In the two - and three- core processors, the Phenom II series ( Callisto and Heka ) it is in fact 4- core processors, in which one or two cores as well as their L1 and L2 caches have been disabled. Originally processors so should be negotiable with defective cores to reduce the amount of scrap. But also functional cores are quite often disabled apparently. With some motherboard / BIOS configurations, these nuclei activate again. If they have not been disabled due to errors, they can be used in regular operation.

Future

The manufacturing of the processor number set with the conversion of factories at Globalfoundries to the 32 nm production in 2011. The products are available only up to the emptying of the camps. The AMD FX processors replace the Phenom II processors in the future, from a technical point of view but no direct successor, as the processor micro-architecture differs dramatically.
