Bärenschanze (Nuremberg U-Bahn)

Metro Station Bärenschanze (abbreviation: BS) was opened as a 17 Metro Station of the Nuremberg U- Bahn on 20 September 1980. The station is served by lines U1 and U11 and was until June 20, 1981 its terminus. It is 700 meters from Maximilian Street Underground Station and 492 meters from the Gostenhof Metro Station.

The subway station was named in the west of the Nuremberg district Gostenhof after the district Bärenschanze. The name of the district itself is taken from a defense ski jump from the 17th century. The Bärenschanze was in the range of the subsequent truce, slightly northwest of the present Rosenau parks. The term Bärenschanze probably derives from the fact that were held in the late Middle Ages in this area, among other bears.

Location and infrastructure

The station is located in the district of Nuremberg Gostenhof and extends below the ground in east-west direction at the Fürth road between comfort and Siel / Paumgartnerstraße. In the vicinity of the station are the Higher Regional and District Court of Nuremberg, the Landgericht Nürnberg- Fürth, the Dürer -Gymnasium and the churches of St. Anton and Trinity. 1993 Ludwig Railway Monument of the city limits Nuremberg / Fürth was moved to the Ostaufgang the subway station.

Of the two lead outputs from the platform heads into a distribution of levels and from there to the south and north side of the road Fürth. In addition, there is a lift from the platform level of the pedestrian zone on the north side of the road Fürth. At the station closes towards Fürth a blunt -to-travel platform changes direction and long water to a parking and reversing facility to Metro Station Gostenhof.

Building and Architecture

The station building is 171 m long, 17 m wide and 7.5 m deep ( one and a half times the down position). Construction of the station began on 26 June 1978, were carried out in an open design with Berlin wall. After completion of works the Fürth road which was renovated and since then has performed in both directions south of the underground station over, the former northbound carriageway was redesigned after removal of provisionally laid tram tracks on a pedestrian street.

The characteristic color of the station is blue. The tiled with ceramic tiles platform walls from top of rail to the platform edge white and then blue with interruption by the white band with the held in black station name. In the station top 18 skylights were installed to supply the station and the distribution of levels with daylight.

Trivia

From the opening of the U -Bahn station Bärenschanze on September 20, 1980 to the extension of the subway to Eberhardshof on 20 June 1981 the tram was still parallel to the U -Bahn to Plaerrer. However, the tram stop at Bärenschanze Metro Station maintained its previous name Sielstraße and was not renamed in Bärenschanze.
