Bassiano
Bassiano is a municipality in the province of Latina in the Italian region Latium, located about 1569 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography
Bassiano located 73 km southeast of Rome and 22 km northeast of Latina.
It lies on the southern slopes of the Monti Lepini above the Pontine plain. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Lepini e Ausoni.
The municipality covers an altitude 14-1205 m slm
The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).
The neighboring municipalities are clockwise Sermoneta, Norma, Carpineto Romano (RM) and Sezze.
Traffic
Bassiano is from the SP 17 Via Ninfinia - opened ( Cisterna di Latina Sezze ). The nearest train station is in Sezze at the Roma- Formia -Naples and 13 kilometers away.
History
According to legend, Bassiano to have been founded by Emperor Caracalla. First mentioned, however, it is in a certain Gregorio Leonis confirmed a gentleman of Bassiano the possession of the place in a document from the year 1169.
1240, Pope Gregory IX. the castles of Sermoneta and Bassiano to Trasmondo Annibadi, in gratitude for the support against Frederick II. Annibaldi The ruled until 1297, when they were replaced by the Caetani.
