Brignano-Frascata

Brignano Frascata ( piemont.: Bërgnàu e Frasca ) is a municipality with 460 (as of 31 December 2012) inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (AL ), Region Piedmont. It belongs to the municipality of composite Comunità Montana Valli Curone Grue e Ossona.

The neighboring municipalities are Casasco, Cecima, Dernice, Garbagna, Gremiasco, Momperone and San Sebastiano Curone. Patron saint of the place is San Giacomo.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 288 m above sea level on the banks of the mountain stream Curone in hilly terrain. The municipality covers an area of ​​17.42 km ².

History

As was found during excavations in the territory Serra del Monte, the area was already inhabited during the Neolithic. The first written mention was the place when he in 1375 by the Duke of Milan, the Genoese Spinola family was passed as a fief. After Napoleone e Giovanni Antonio Spinola had his brother Battista and his three sons murdered in 1478 in the castle of the town, the area passed into the possession of Enrico Bigurra, the brother of Battista. He sold the land in 1485 for 13,500 lire to Cavalchino Guidobono. From 1685 to the early 19th century, the land belonged to the Ferrari family from San Sebastiano. It was not until 1928, the area was an independent municipality.

The present castle of the town, the Castello bruzzo, goes back to a building from the 17th century. It was renovated in 1936 by Alfonso bruzzo in medieval style and expanded.
