Burgbernheim is located at the eastern foot of the Franks height and at the SW edge of the Windsheimer bay. History

• 741/742: First mention. Franconia Duke Carloman equips the diocese of Würzburg newly formed extensive Zehntrechten from, amongst others, the Krongutsbezirk Berenheim whose centerpiece was a royal court.
• 1000: Emperor Otto III. gives the Bishop of Wurzburg Castle and village of Ber (s) home with the associated forest.
• 1280: With the acquisition of the Bailiwick Bernheim by Burggraf Friedrich III. of Nuremberg, the city came under the rule of the Bailiwick Zollern - but the bishop remains feudal lord.
