The current coat of arms of Romania has existed since 1992 and was decided on 10 September 1992 as a representative coat of arms for the Republic of Romania, in the Romanian Parliament.

Symbolism

As a central element of the coat of arms of Romania shows a golden eagle. This eagle also appears on the coat of arms of the circle Arges and the cities of Pitesti and Curtea de Arges. It symbolizes the dynasty of the Arabian Bass, who made it possible at all that the Tara Românească ( = Romanian country) has formed. The eagle, symbol of the Latin roots and the nobility, stands for courage, determination, the desire for something higher, strength and size. The azure shield symbolizes the sky. The eagle holds in its talons the sign of power: a mace and a sword. The latter is reminiscent of the Moldavian ruler Ştefan cel Mare ( Stephen the Great, 1456-1504 ), of " The Cavalier of Christ" was also known by the name. The Mace is Michael the Brave boast ( Michael the Brave, 1593-1601 ), the first unifier of the Romanian countries.

History

As early as 1990, after the fall of the Ceauşescu regime, there was a discussion about a new coat of arms. The crest that graced the Romanian flag to 1989, was representative of the socialist -communist Romania and showed motifs such as wheat ears and a red star.
