Cynthia McKinney

Cynthia Ann McKinney ( born March 17, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American politician who ran as candidate of the Green Party in the presidential election in November 2008.

Biography

Cynthia McKinney was born in 1955 as the daughter of the future politician Billy McKinney in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended St. Joseph High School and then studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she received in 1978 her Bachelor of Arts (BA). From 1988 to 1992 she served on the House of Representatives from Georgia. McKinney was elected in November 1992 for the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives of the 103rd U.S. Congress and represented there, with four successful re- election, the fourth electoral district of the state of Georgia from January 3rd 1993 to January 3, 2003. 2002 she strove unsuccessfully to another candidacy. Only in 2005 she managed the re-entry into the House of Representatives of the United States, the legislative period from January 3, 2005 until 3 January 2007. In 2006, she tried again unsuccessfully to another candidacy.

Since October 2007 she has been a member of the Green Party. McKinney is committed to, among others, for the rights of African- Americans and the abolition of the death penalty. In the presidential elections in November 2008, she ran as a candidate of their new party.

McKinney 2008 and 2009 participated in the Free Gaza movement part, which has the goal to break the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip and to transport aid to Gaza.
