The East Galena Township is one of 23 townships in Jo Daviess County in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Illinois.

Geography

The East Galena Township is located in northwest Illinois on the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. The northwestern boundary of the Township is formed from the Galena River. The border with Wisconsin is located about 20 north of the township.

The East Galena Township is located at 42 ° 24'41 " north latitude and 90 ° 23'30 " west longitude and extending over 60.65 km ², spread over 60.25 km ² land and 0.4 km ² water surface.

The East Galena Township borders Jo Daviess County within the north by the Council Hill Township, on the east by the Guilford Township, to the southeast by the Elizabeth Township, south of the Rice Township, on the west by the West Galena and the Rawlins Township and in northwest on the Vinegar Hill Township.

Traffic

Through the East Galena Township Township leads the the Illinois section of the Great River Road forming U.S. Highway 20, which on the same route as the Illinois Highway 84 runs here. There are also in the township a number of partly unpaved County Roads and other secondary roads.

A railway line of the BNSF Railway, which runs parallel to the entire Mississippi River, runs through the southwest corner of the Township.

The nearest airports are about 40 km west located in Iowa Dubuque Regional Airport and about 35 km to the north in Wisconsin Platteville Municipal Airport.

Population

In the census in 2010, the township had 1283 inhabitants.

The population of the Township is focused on the south-east of the Galena River parts of the city of Galena.
