Émagny

Émagny is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Émagny situated at an altitude of 210 m above sea level, about 15 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the wide valley of Ognon, south of the river opposite the pin.

The area of ​​5.15 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognontals. The northern boundary runs along the Ognon, the multiple turn it flows through up to two kilometers wide valley to the west. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the alluvial plain to the adjoining hill, which is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also some smaller forest areas shows. With 248 m find the highest mountains of Émagny is achieved. Further south follows the wide Talniederung the Lanterne, which opens into the Ognon at the westernmost point of the community ban. History

In the valley of the Lanterne south of Émagny the Cistercian monastery of Bellefontaine was founded in the 12th century, which was under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of Besançon. The village Émagny belonged first to rule Scey, then the families Châtelet and Chaillot. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. End of the 19th century, the city was connected with the opening of the railway line from Besançon Marnay on the French rail network (now decommissioned). Émagny does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish pin. Today is Émagny seat of the comprehensive 13 municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes des Rives de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The old town is characterized by different farmhouses dating from the 17th to the 19th century in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté. From the 18th century comes Lavoir ( laundry and livestock watering ). About the Ognon performs a stone bridge. The buildings of the former convent Bellefontaine was converted into a Hofgut.

Population

With 608 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Émagny one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of 220 to 290 people, a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1950s. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Émagny was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
