Émile Bouchard

Émile Joseph " Butch" Bouchard (CM, CQ, born September 4, 1919 in Montreal, Quebec, † April 14, 2012 in Longueuil, Quebec ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. From 1941 to 1956 he played for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

First, the 1.88 m tall defender for the Verdun Maple Leafs in the QSHL and the Providence Reds stood in the American Hockey League on the ice before he joined the season 1941/42, to the Canadiens.

For Montreal the right shooter completed until the 1955/56 season a total of 898 NHL inserts, thereby pass him 60 goals and 166 assists. From 1948 until his career end of 1956, he was also captain of the Canadian franchises, with the Bouchard was four times the Stanley Cup win (1944, 1946, 1953, 1956).

1966 Emile Bouchard was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, further the Trophée Émile Bouchard of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is named after him. He is also the father of former NHL defenseman Pierre Bouchard.

His shirt number 3 has been banned on 4 December 2009 on the day of the 100th anniversary of the Canadiens, prior to the game against the Boston Bruins, after a solemn ceremony by the club. Émile Bouchard died on April 14, 2012 in Longueuil at the age of 92 years.
