History

Origins

Although the team of FC København is only in 1992 that accrued for the first time, this very young team can yet claim to be the oldest football club in Northern Europe outside the UK. For he was created by the merger of the professional teams of two Copenhagen clubs, of which dated the Elder of 1876 ( football department from 1879):

  • Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB ) was founded on 26 April 1876 in Copenhagen. In addition to football, the members of the association also cricket and tennis. KB has already won the first two discharged Danish Championships 1913/14 and 1914/15. 13 more titles, most recently in 1980, have been added yet, and so can the Bold club, although he does not own a professional team more, still ascribe the title of the Danish championship record. However, the national cup competition won only once the club despite five finals.
  • The Boldklubben 1903 ( B1903 ) was since its inception in the early 20th century always a pure football club. When first discharged Danish Championship 1913/14, the team was already in fourth, and 1924 could be the title for the first time to decide for themselves. This was followed by six more times, most recently in 1976, and two cup wins. The Cup victory in 1986 was also the last national title of one of two traditional capital clubs. Torben Piechnik was the last " 3 " ( as the followers called their players often, in reference to the founding year of 1903), which was next to the red and black 1903 jersey also the red jersey of the Danish national team - as part of the legendary European champion team from 1992.

The fusion

During the 1980s, however, KB increasingly lost ground, and eventually you found yourself, despite continued high popularity, the fans, in the second division again. The 3- plagued, however, another problem: although the club could continue to keep up athletic (1992 one was still vice-champion in the same season and you could see the FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup defeat 6:2 ), were on average not more than 2000 viewers the home games.

At the same time came in this time, another club on that was out of nowhere a serial winner of the Danish League: Brøndby IF from the Copenhagen periphery brought the long-established capital clubs visibly in distress.

In addition, at this time the Danish National Stadium Parking ( " the Park " ) was rebuilt by the Copenhagen Østerport and would have been the largest and most modern stadium in the country empty as of 1993, there is no high-class club would have found would fill it with viewers.

As a last resort, it was decided a drastic step: it combined the strengths of KB ( the strong fan base and support the regional economy ) and the B1903 ( a strong team and the starting place in the first division ) and placed under the name FC København (the name was chosen to clearly delineate the suburban club Brøndby IF, the one not regarded as "real " Copenhagen club ) have a common professional team together. The two clubs were not fused as such, they put together just the game running their respective first team. Both clubs continue to exist and maintain their own youth teams.

The first team that ran aground at the start of the 1992/93 season for the FCK consisted almost entirely of former B1903 - players. As a concession to the KB fans who should suddenly cheer for a completely different team, and also bearing in mind the tradition of Boldklub as giants, were chosen as the Club colors white and blue, the old KB - colors. The new coat of arms was a blue lion head and a stylized Dannebrog. The lion was chosen because so far, not a single major Danish club such resulted in the coat of arms.

History as FC Copenhagen

The timing of the merger seemed well chosen as the FCK in the fall of 1992 entered the stage, the enthusiasm for football in Denmark was just at the peak - in the summer you had become European champion surprising in Sweden. Width of the population suddenly interested in football for the first time and found in the FC København a new favorite club. By that time the highest average attendance of the Danish football history, FCK won the championship at the first start-up, and provides ever since in the local derby New Firm head-to -head race with Brøndby for supremacy in Danish football.

Preliminary sporting highlight of the club has been the 2003/04 season, in which you could win both the championship and the cup ( the third so far victory in this competition). In the season 2006/07 FC was the sixth time in club history Danish title. 2006 FC reached the group stage of the Champions League by a 1:2 and 2:0 against Ajax. In the group stage then they met Benfica, Celtic and Manchester United. The group was finished as a Table, which was tantamount to leaving.

2010 reached the capital club with a victory in the play- offs against the Norwegian club Rosenborg Trondheim ( 1:2 / 1:0) again the group stage of the Champions League. This time they met Rubin Kazan, Panathinaikos and FC Barcelona. Unlike the first time you could surprisingly pass the group stage, as one behind FC Barcelona and Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos Athens ago took second place in the table. In the second round they dropped out against Chelsea ( 0:2 / 0:0). The reach of the fourth round - the first Danish team - is the biggest success at international level.

The fusion concept of the FCK was perceived in Europe as a great success and also several times imitated - both in Denmark (eg FC Midtjylland ) and outside (such as for SpVgg Greuther Fürth ).

Caused a sensation in the club in September 2013 by the controversial measure, tickets for the UEFA Champions League 2013/14 to sell only to fans with Danish names. This was based on alleged safety concerns to prevent the purchase of tickets by opposing fans.

Østergaard, the Board of the stadium operating company Parking Sports & Entertainment A / S, whose subsidiary of FCK is today, the parking area built gradually from a prosperous office and entertainment center, which meant that the FCK today one of the few European football clubs regularly generates profits.

At the same time expanding Østergaard with its brand FCK in other sports - so you took over in 2002 the women's and men's team of handball club Frederiksberg Idrætsforening who subsequently traded as FCK Håndbold.
