Ferrières-les-Bois

Ferrieres -les -Bois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ferrieres -les -Bois is located at 265 m, about 17 km west-southwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village extends north of Saint -Vit in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon ( in the north).

The area of ​​4.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the north Doubstals. Passing the part with arable and meadow land, partly with forest landscape shows only slight differences in relief. A short creek drains the area north to the Ruisseau du Breuil and thus to Ognon. The southern boundary runs along the watershed between the Doubs and Ognon. Here the highest elevation of Ferrieres -les -Bois is achieved with 302 m.

Neighboring communities of Ferrieres -les -Bois are Lantenne - Vertière and Corcelles- Ferrieres in the north, Corcondray in the east, Saint -Vit in the south and Berthelange and Mercey -le- Grand in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages the area of Ferrieres to the cathedral chapter of Besançon belonged. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Ferrieres was officially renamed in 1922 in Ferrieres -les -Bois.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Nativity was built in 1700 in the form of a Latin cross. In 1830 the present bell tower was added. Also noteworthy are the wash-house of 1845 and the Fontaine -Ronde ( 1860 ). At the height south of the village, the chapel of Notre -Dame de la Libération is (1944 built ).

Population

With 319 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ferrieres -les -Bois is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​110-140 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Ferrieres -les -Bois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the agglomeration Besançon their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Saint -Vit by Recologne. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 15 km. Further road links exist with Berthelange and Pouilley -Français.
