The Florence Township is one of 18 townships in Stephenson County in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois.
Geography
The Florence Township is located in northwestern Illinois, approximately 30 km south of the Wisconsin border. The Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa, is located around 60 km to the west.
The Florence Township is located at 42 ° 14'34 " north latitude and 89 ° 41'03 " west longitude and covers an area of 46.61 km ².
The Florence Township is located in southwest suburban area of Freeport, the center of the region. It borders within the Stephenson County in the west to the Loran Township, on the northwest by the Erin Township, on the north by the Harlem Township, in the northeast of the city of Freeport and to the east by the Silver Creek Township. In the south of the Florence Township is adjacent to the Carroll and Ogle County.
Traffic
The eastern boundary of the Township is formed by the Illinois State Route 35, the southern exit road of Freeport. Due to the north carries the unnumbered as a remote road west arterial road of the city. All other roads are subordinate and partly unpaved roadways.
The nearest airport is about 5 km east of the township located Albertus Airport in Freeport.
Population
In the census in 2010, the township had 1293 inhabitants. The population lives mostly in the suburban area of the city of Freeport, without being legally belong to the city. In addition, in addition to scattered settlement still exists the unincorporated settlement Florence.
