Frankenstraße (Nuremberg U-Bahn)

Metro Station Franconia Road (abbreviation: FR) was opened as the ninth metro station of the Nuremberg U -Bahn on June 18, 1974. It is 673 meters from the Maffei Underground Station and 752 meters from the Hasenbuck Metro Station. Until 23 September 1975, he was the terminus for the line U1.

The metro station was opened under the name franc Street / South Ring, the timetable change in September 1980, the additional name Suedring was omitted. The Franks street is named after the Germanic tribe of the Franks and part of the middle ring.

Location and infrastructure

The station is located in the district of Nuremberg Hummelstein and extends below the ground in north-south direction under the Pillenreuther road between Lorraine and Franconia Road ( South Ring / B 4 R ). From the northern platform, a head, leading into a basement under the distributor Pillenreuther Street and from there on the west and east sides. From the South Head one, leading into a distribution of levels below the intersection Pillenreuther / Katzwanger / Franconia Road and from there to all corners of the intersection and the bus station. An elevator leads from the northern end of the station to the surface amid the Pillenreuther road. At the railway station towards Fürth includes acute and long direction of water to a blunt -to-travel platform changes.

Building and Architecture

Construction of the 225 m long station building began on December 6, 1971, were carried out in an open design with Berlin wall. The elevator was upgraded in 1983. The southern distribution projectile is unusually generously applied, since originally a shopping arcade was planned, but this was never realized.

The color of the subway station is blue. The tiled with ceramic tiles platform walls are blue from the ground up to the height of the platform edge, then white with interruption by the band with the platform names (white text on blue background) and then blue again to the ceiling. The round support columns are also tiled in blue.

The station is serviced by the underground lines U1 and U11. The weekend also runs Night bus N5. Southwest of the intersection is the stop of tram line 5 ( Worzeldorfer road - Tiergarten ).
