Explanation of the name

Old names of the place are around 1350 Vorstenberch, 1369-1370 Vorst Berg, 1399 Forstinberg, 1410 Furstenberge, 1446 and 1495 Forstenbergk Fcrstenberg. The place name is a formation with the base word " mountain ". With the appellative " Voerste " ( " prince " ) is a plausible determination word before, because this word appears often in castles and palaces name. " Prince " would be a convincing interpretation, but there is another possible interpretation of the word "First" ( " gable top edge "). The highlighted position Fürstenbergs would support this interpretation. Ultimately, both interpretations are possible..
