Gornate-Olona

Gornate - Olona ( Gornaa or Gurnàt in the local dialect ) is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2236 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Varese, in the Lombardy region. The municipality is situated approximately 11 km south-southeast of Varese in the Olona.

History

In the district of Torba is the old system of the monastery St. Mary of the Parco di archeologico Castelseprio. The origins lie in the 5th or 6th century. From the 8th century, the monastery was used by the Benedictines. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site " The Longobards in Italy, Places of Power ( 568-774 AD) ".
