Geography

The community Gornau lies on a plateau west of the Zschopau and east of the ridge Dittersdorfer height ( 554 m). The highest point of the village is the idol height with 493 m between the districts, the lowest point is the Zschopautal with 290 m in the district Witzschdorf. The district Gornau is a Waldhufendorf, aligned east-west which lies on the plateau. The district Dittmannsdorf, also a Waldhufendorf, is located north of Gornau in the valley of Dittmann villages creek. The district is located northeast of Witzschdorf Gornau, on the steep western slope of the Zschopautales.

History

Gornau was first mentioned in 1445 as the Gorn. With the Reformation in 1539 Gornau belongs to the parish Zschopau. 1673 a teacher is first mentioned in 1743 and a school house is built. On November 21, 1841 a new school building is inaugurated. 1891 municipally owned cemetery is dedicated to the chapel. A larger school building was inaugurated in 1897.
