Grottole

Grottole is a municipality in the southern Italian province of Matera in the region of Basilicata. Grottole is approximately 13 km from Grassano away. The village has 2327 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) on an area of 115 km ².

Grottole is increased between Miglionico and Grassano, west of the Lago di San Giuliano. Like all villages in the region was devastated by an earthquake in 1980. New buildings there were very few since then. The houses of the village, there were damaged by the earthquake or not, have remained largely in original condition.
