Craco

Craco is a municipality in the province of Matera in the region of Basilicata.

In Craco 760 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The place is 55 km south of Matera. The neighboring municipalities are Ferrandina Montalbano Jonico, Pisticci, San Mauro Forte and Stigliano.

History

Craco originated in the Middle Ages. The hill on which was located the place was destroyed by landslides in 1991 and ripped countless houses with him into the valley. Craco is built near Peschiera again. The name comes from Cracen, the Barrens.
