Iceland Airwaves

The Iceland Airwaves is an annual that takes place in Reykjavík since 1999 Music Festival.

History

The festival takes place the first time in 1999 as a one-time event in a hangar at Reykjavík airport instead. Due to the unexpected success, it is repeated in subsequent years on the third weekend in October and is fast becoming a five-day event, which always goes from Wednesday to Sunday and takes place in various clubs and bars. In 2007, the Iceland Airwaves held at eight locations and about 4150 visitors for the first time sold in advance.

The main objective of the festival is the unveiling of new bands, both in Iceland as well as foreign. Some bands then managed the international break, so that every year many in the music industry to Reykjavík drive for new talent to be discovered. The organizer estimates that in 2006 were of the approximately 2000 who had traveled over 1000 visitors from the music industry. Among the visitors there are also editors of almost all major music magazines that praise the festival annually.

Iceland Airwaves is hosted by the Agency Mr. Destiny in cooperation with the City of Reykjavík and Icelandair.
