Ikaria (regional unit)

The Regional District of Ikaria (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Ikaria Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Ικαρίας ) is one of five regional districts of the Greek region of North Aegean. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from four island communities of the former Samos Prefecture and corresponds to the area of ​​the province Ikaria, which existed until 1997. Proportional to its 9,882 inhabitants sent to the field two deputies in the regional council, but has no more political significance than local authority.
