Kalymnos (regional unit)

The Regional District of Kalymnos (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Kalymnou Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καλύμνου ) is one of 13 regional districts of the Greek region South Aegean. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from six island communities of the former Dodecanese Prefecture and corresponds exactly to the territory of the former province of Kalymnos, which existed until 1997. Proportional to its 29,452 inhabitants sent to the field five deputies in the regional council, but has no more political significance than local authority. It is divided into six islands and communities Agathonisi Astypalia, Kalymnos, Leros, Lipsi and Patmos.
