Islands (regional unit)

The Regional District of islands (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Nison Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Νήσων ) is one of eight regional districts of the Greek region of Attica. It was formed on the occasion of the administrative reform in 2010 from the mainland territory in the Peloponnese and the island communities of the former prefecture of Piraeus district. Proportional to its 74 651 inhabitants, the area sends two deputies to the Attic Regional Council, but has no more political significance than local authority. It is divided into eight municipalities Aegina, Agistri, Hydra, Kythira, Poros, Salamis, Spetses and Trizinia.
