The Lockheed Martin Corporation is a U.S. defense and technology company, which is mainly active in the military and commercial aviation and aerospace.

History

The Lockheed Martin Corporation was founded in March 1995 and is a merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. In 1996 the company Loral Corporation was acquired for $ 9.1 billion. As a result of the merger, as well as serious financial problems in the late 1990s, large portions of the Group were sold to the British rival BAE Systems. This sparked by Lockheed Martin as a temporary largest defense company in the world from. After an extensive renovation, however, Lockheed Martin could claim in 2004 again for themselves this item.

In October 2001, Lockheed won the contract for the largest fighter aircraft program of the post-war period, the Joint Strike Fighter. This order gave the group a new lease.

The Department of Transportation and Security Solutions ( transport and security solutions ) received the 2005 award for the construction of the filing system of the Electronic Records Archives ( ERA ) of the National Archives and Records Administration ( NARA).

Products

The business of Martin Marietta also include the construction of missiles and long-distance missiles. Among other things, the external tank and smaller components for the booster rockets of the space shuttle was built by Lockheed Martin.

The subsidiary Lockheed Martin Commercial Space System ( LMCSS ) develops and manufactures communications and Earth observation satellites.
