Manny Fernandez (ice hockey)

Emmanuel Fernandez - Lemaire ( born August 27, 1974 in Etobicoke, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. He is the nephew of Hockey coach Jacques Lemaire.

Career

Manny Fernandez was selected on a total of 52 position during the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 by the Quebec Nordiques in the third round. He played two more years in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was elected there to the most valuable player of the season and the play offs. In February 1994, the rights of Fernandez to the Dallas Stars were transferred and he stood at the beginning of the 1994/95 season in the squad of the farm teams of Dallas, the Kalamazoo Wings in the International Hockey League. In April 1995, Fernandez played his first NHL game. In the following four years he came along just eight games in the NHL and played as a goalkeeper in the farm team of the Dallas Stars in the IHL.

After Roman Turek left the Dallas Stars in the summer of 1999, Fernandez took its position as the second goalkeeper and played in the 1999/2000 season 24 games, as the Stars won the Stanley Cup.

In the summer of 2000 he was transferred to an exchange transaction to the Minnesota Wild just newly formed. There, he shared in the first year with Jamie McLennan the post as number 1 Before the season 2001/ 02 was replaced by Dwayne Roloson McLennan, with which Fernandez had to share because of the position as first-choice goalkeeper. The following season, Fernandez was only number 2 but then again Still, he played the best season of his career up to that point, reaching the final of the Western Conference Minnesota. In the 2003 /04 season he was the number 2 and the team missed out on the Play Offs.

Due to the lockout, the NHL season 2004/ 05 fell out and Manny Fernandez hired at Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien. After completion of the labor dispute, the season took place in 2005 /06 and Manny Fernandez Dwayne Roloson displaced as goalkeeper of the Minnesota Wild. Roloson then moved in the course of the season to the Edmonton Oilers. Fernandez gave good performances, but in the end it was not enough for the play offs. In March 2006, he extended his contract with Minnesota.

Manny Fernandez is the beginning of the 2006/07 season with Niklas Backstrom as a back -up goalie goalkeeper the team. Halfway through the season, he had to divide due to the good performance of Backstrom, the place as goalkeeper with the Finns. When Fernandez injured in March 2007, he finally lost the regular place. After the season, both received the William M. Jennings Trophy as the goalie with the fewest goals against.

On 1 July 2007 Fernandez was transferred to the Boston Bruins, where he was to form the team with goalkeeper Tim Thomas as a substitute goalkeeper in the 2007/ 08 season. However, Fernandez injured after three weeks, and fell over four months.
