Masone

Masone ( Ligurian Mazun, Mazzon or Mason) is a municipality in the province of Genoa with 3750 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Masone is an important center in the valley of the Stura and, together with three other municipalities, the Ligurian mountain village of Valli Stura e Orba. The municipality is located in the country Beigua Park.

The municipality is situated on the northern side of the Ligurian Apennines, which is very close as is in this section of the coast of the Ligurian Sea. The district Cappelletta is in this case practically at the level of the ridge in the direction of the Bric del Dente, behind which lie the park boundaries of the park Beigua.

The municipal center of Masone is separated into two parts. The historic center (also called Paese Vecchio ) is located on the southern slopes of a small hill (432 meters), on which the castle stood Spinola until the first half of the 18th century. This hill town stands on the left ( orographic ) side of the river Stura.

In the first decades of the 19th century a second community center was built ( the Paese Nuovo ) in an alluvial plain ( 391 meters). This plane is located down the valley at the confluence of the two rivers Stura and Vezzulla on the right side of the former.

According to the Italian classifications for seismic activity Masone Zone 4 has been assigned. This means that the municipality is in a seismically safe zone.
