Santa Margherita Ligure

Santa Margherita Ligure ( Ligurian Margaita Santa or Santa Margaitta ), the Pearl of the Tigullio called, is a town with 9624 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Genoa. She has the reputation of a small elegant cosmopolitan port city on the Riviera di Levante. In the native environment it is short also simply called Santa ( Holy ).

Geography

Santa Margherita Ligure is located on the Riviera di Levante in Liguria, on the east side of the Cape of Portofino and in the middle of the Gulf of Tigullio (Italian: Golfo del Tigullio ). The city is located about 35 kilometers from the regional capital, Genoa and is surrounded by the foothills of the Ligurian Apennines hills. The vegetation is Mediterranean with parks and gardens, which offer views of the Costa dei Delfini ( Dolphin Coast ), which separates the town of Portofino.

A part of the municipal territory is located in the Parco naturale di Portofino Regional (Regional Natural Park of Portofino ). In addition, Santa Margherita Ligure managed together with the municipalities of Camogli and Portofino Marine Reserve Portofino.

The municipality is part of the geographical zone called Tigullio.

Film

In the Gulf of Tigullio, as well as in Santa Margherita Ligure even many Italian movies were filmed in the 1960s and 1980s. 1973 served the city as a backdrop for parts of the movie La polizia incrimina, la legge assolve the director Enzo Castellari.

1988 started off with the director Maurizio Ponzi volpone the community as a location of some episodes of the comedy Il.

Economy

The economy of Santa Margherita Ligure is largely based on tourism. Its attractiveness for travelers from all over the world pays tribute to the community of the many seaside resorts, luxurious hotels, and not least the location is close to the tourist magnet Portofino. Of importance is also the cruise tourism.

The city's port is used as an anchorage for yachts, as well as for the traditional fishing boats. He is also the starting point of different water sports events such as internationally renowned regattas.

Infrastructure

Road

Santa Margherita Ligure is located on the coastal road that connects Rapallo Portofino. The community itself is not tied directly to the highway, but is accessible from exit at Rapallo from the A12. From there, Santa Margherita can be achieved either through the Via Aurelia (SP 1) or on the street of San Michele di Pagana. Both roads are however often overloaded.

Direct Driving does not allow the Via Aurelia, however. In San Lorenzo della Costa, however, a narrow connecting road, their use is not recommended by trucks, in the inhabited center of the city. The road from San Michele di Pagana is approximately three kilometers shorter than the former, but is characterized by a strong road narrows so that only one vehicle can pass at a time.

Because of these infrastructure problems are different transport projects in the planning phase, including the construction of a tunnel to Rapallo.

Public transportation

The train station of Santa Margherita - Portofino is located on the railway Pisa -La Spezia -Genoa in the section between Genoa and La Spezia.

Shipping

There are regular boat service operated from Santa Margherita Ligure to Portofino, San Fruttuoso and the Cinque Terre, as well as to the great centers of Liguria Rapallo, Sestri Levante, Chiavari and Genova.
