Neukirchen am GROßVENEDIGER is an Austrian market town in the district of Zell am See (Pinzgau ), Salzburger Land with 2506 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). It is located in the region of Upper Pinzgau, about 16.5 kilometers from the main town of Mittersill, as well as 44 km from the district of Zell am See and belongs to the National Park Hohe Tauern communities.

Origin of the name

It is said that there was originally a place called Mitterndorf in today Dürnbachau, which would have been but destroyed by a flood of Dürnbaches. We have therefore further east a new village with a new church built in a protected location, which was therefore called Neukirchen.

The center of Neukirchen am GROßVENEDIGER lies at an elevation of 858 meters at the foot of the wild Kogels in the upper Salzach Valley, on the left - the northern, sunny side - the banks of the Salzach. Tributaries of the River Salzach are from the north, coming from the Kitzbühel Alps, the Trattenbach and Dürnbach, from the south, arising in the Hohe Tauern, the Obersulzbach and Untersulzbach. With 165 km ² Neukirchen is the fourth largest municipality in the district of Zell am See. To the west of Trattenbach Neukirchen separates from Wald im Pinzgau, in the north of the Kitzbühel Alps are a natural border with the Tyrolean two communities Westendorf and Kirchberg in Tirol Kitzbühel Misc dar. From Wildkogelbahn up in the Hohe Tauern runs into the eastern border to the municipality Bramberg. That part of the municipal area, which is located in the Hohe Tauern, includes, besides the two Tauern valleys, Untersulzbachtal and Obersulzbachtal, with the GROßVENEDIGER ( 3662 masl ), the highest peak in the state. In the Tauern and the borders with neighboring communities Praegraten lie on GROßVENEDIGER and Matrei in Misc Lienz, Tir. , As well as the municipality of Krimml.

Neukirchen forms a separate community with its own council (19 councilors ) and Mayor (Peter Nindl, ÖVP).

The Citizenship and Registry Office Association Neukirchen am Großvenediger is also responsible for the two neighboring communities Wald im Pinzgau and Krimml in the relevant respects.

Neukirchen was until 2002 part of the judicial district of Mittersill and belongs since 2003 to the judicial district of Zell am See. Together with eight other municipalities Oberpinzgau forms Neukirchen the Regional Association Oberpinzgau.

The community is, together with the other Oberpinzgau communities between Krimml and Hollerbach, part of the Pollution Control Association Oberpinzgau West, which is responsible for the infrastructure concerning sewerage and proper disposal of waste water from the region.

After Kastralgemeinden the municipality is divided Neukirchen am Großvenediger in Neukirchen ( 57016 ), Rosenthal ( 57019 ) and Sulzau ( 57025 ).

The three electoral districts of the market town of Neukirchen am GROßVENEDIGER count in elections to the Austrian National Council ( Austria ) for regional constituency Lungau / Pinzgau / Pongau ( 5c), and for the provincial constituency of Salzburg. At the Salzburg state elections for parliament constituency Zell am See ( 6).

The parish Neukirchen heard within the Archdiocese of Salzburg for the Dean's Office Stuhlfelden, in which they, Wald im Pinzgau and Bramberg forms the Pfarrverband Stuhlfelden PV2 together with the parishes of Krimml.

Tourism

A cableway runs up to almost 2100 meters up to the Wild Mountain. Here offer in the summer months, good hiking opportunities. In the winter months there is a wide range of winter sports. Similarly, the southern valleys of Neukirchen are good to wander. In Neukirchen for some years held the biggest Triumph motorcycle event in the world, the TRIDAYS, at the meeting, several thousand bikers from all over Europe in the village and celebrate a huge party. For this purpose, the whole place is decorated in the British style and renamed for the time in " Newchurch " (English for, Neukirchen '). Despite the motorcycle spectacle in summer the church is a member of the Cooperation Alpine Pearls, which campaigns for environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism.
