Geography
Geographical location
The ten -valley village Ottenhoefen in the Black Forest is located in the Acher Valley, between the Black Forest High Road and Baden wine road, 35 kilometers from Strasbourg / Alsace, Baden -Baden and Freudenstadt. The municipal area extends to 300-1005 meters above sea level and is covered by forest more than 50 percent.
Neighboring communities
The municipality is bordered to the east by Seebach, in the south on the town Oppenau and Lautenbach and to the west by Kappelrodeck.
Community structure
The municipality Ottenhoefen in the Black Forest with the formerly independent municipality Furschenbach include numerous hamlets and so-called tines ( farms and houses ). For the former municipality Furschenbach, which was incorporated in 1974, includes the hamlets Am Bach, Buchenwald and Mama, the courtyards Am Rain, Günsberg ( in official maps: Green Mountain ) and Sommereck and crags.
The municipality Ottenhoefen the nucleus Ottenhoefen in the Black Forest, the hamlet Hagenbruck and in the courts (both structurally connected Ottenhoefen ), the tines Blöchereck, Dick Pond, Gottschläg, Heidebach, Kohlstatt, Langeck, the courtyards Blaubronn, Lauenburg Bach, Roos ( include in official maps Ross ), courtyard, Simmersbach, Sohlberg (partly to Lautenbach ), underwater, Wolfer Bach and Zieselberg, the residential places Atzelbach, Brach, Bromberg, noblewoman grave, Holderbrünnele and slot and the place Huber hole ( today's street name Bromberg ). In the hamlet of underwater are the hamlets Kriesehof, Atzelbach.
History
The eponymous Otto farm was first mentioned in 1479. But not until 1817 was a separate municipality from the local settlement.
The area belonged since 1316 to the secular field of prince bishops of Strasbourg. In addition to other landowners were the Knights of Bosenstein of particular importance, however, had to their land in the 15th century sell for financial reasons. 1795 finally came their territory to the bishopric of Strasbourg. But in 1803 fell Ottenhoefen by the secularization due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss circuit at the later Grand Duchy of Baden. Religions
Although the area of today's Ottenhoefen passed the Reformation, the place obtained in 1823 his first Roman Catholic Church. In the centuries before has today's congregation had first to the parish Oberachern and since 1447 to Kappelrodeck or to the parish in Waldulm. 1823 then the parish Ottenhoefen was founded. Due to the influx of Protestants and the increasing number of spa guests could 1936 a Protestant church to be consecrated.

On January 1, 1973, the community was incorporated Furschenbach.
Policy
The municipality belongs together with Seebach on the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Kappelrodeck; his sole responsibility is the common land-use planning ( zoning ). As a voluntary task municipalities Seebach, Ottenhoefen in the Black Forest and Kappelrodeck have taken over the tasks to dispose of their waste water through a common sewage treatment plant in Kappelrodeck.

Coat of arms
It shows an eight-spoked golden wheel in red escutcheon. Some of what can not be proved, want to see in the wheel, a water wheel, which is intended to indicate the former bosensteinischen Mühlenhof. Others interpret the coat of arms with the eight strahlenformig emanating from the place valleys.

The municipality has no formal partnerships. There are amicable relations with the community Tekirova, Turkey on the Turkish Riviera.
Culture and sights
Around Ottenhoefen, one can discover the Miihlenweg. He he cites several historic mills over, who are also still in operation. Ottenhoefen therefore has the suffix mill village.
East of Ottenhoefen is the Karlsruher ridge, which is crossed by the only via ferrata in the northern Black Forest.
Museums
On the Achertalbahn of Achern to Ottenhoefen in the Black Forest runs a museum railway. In the community center of the municipality ( the train station) is housed on the upper floor a museum that shows some interesting objects from different centuries of church history.
Structures
Of the former castle Bosenstein that was decisive for the settlement in the valley, no visible remains of walls are no longer present. It is believed that below the earth face in deeper areas or foundation walls can be exposed. The site is not publicly accessible and is privately owned.

The Werkrealschule was set up for the school year 2010/2011, together with the neighboring community Kappelrodeck.
