Geographical location

Sasbachwalden is located on the western slope of the Hornisgrinde in the Black Forest in 172-1164 meters above sea level between Baden -Baden and Offenburg. More than 70 percent of the municipal area is forest.

The open west valley allows a remote view of the entire Rhine valley, Strasbourg and the Vosges.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by running, to the east by Forbach in the district of Rastatt, to the south by Seebach and Kappelrodeck and to the west by the city Achern and Sasbach.

History

Sasbachwalden was first documented in 1347. However, it was not to form a closed village center, but the place remained for centuries a collection of hamlets and farmsteads.

1818 Sasbachwalden became an independent municipality. The place belonged to the 1924 District Achern, then to the district of Bühl. After its dissolution in 1973, he came to Ortenaukreis.

Mayor

After the episcopal straßburgische rule Oberkirch had gone over to the State of Baden in 1803, a " Stabhalterei " with a rod holder was first introduced from any place at the top with at least 300 inhabitants. Economy

The main economic activities are tourism, viticulture, production of Black Forest kirsch and mainly wood processing trade. The Sasbachwaldener documents belong to the wine region Ortenau in the wine region of Baden. The former German wine princess and former Baden Wine Queen Andrea Köninger comes from Sasbachwalden.

There was neither a comprehensive nor broadband DSL service in the community, they decided to build a fiber optic network in-house. In 2011 it went into operation, all buildings are directly connected ( Fiber to the Building ) and there are bandwidths of up to 75 Mbit / s available. Traffic

By Sasbachwalden leads the provincial road 86 that leads from Achern to Black Forest Road (B 500). Sasbachwalden is incorporated in the territory of the tariff association Ortenau (TGO ). The flowers and wine village Sasbachwalden has a heritage village. In the resort there are 20 catering establishments, which are known for their regional cuisine of the Winzer Stube to the Michelin restaurant. Also known as Badische enjoyment mile. Other attractions include the outdoor adventure pool with heated swimming pool and a 55 m giant slide and the Kurhaus " Zum Alde Gott " with a variety of events, including the Music Festival TON: styles under the auspices of Christian Quadflieg. The Gaishoell Falls and the ruins of Hohenrode are known hiking destinations.

Viniculture

The village has a kindergarten and a primary school, both located in the town center. Schools visit the Sasbachwaldener students in Achern and Sasbach (high school / junior high school ) or in Achern - Oberachern (Hauptschule).
