Paola (also: Pawla or Paula, maltese usually Rahal Gdid - called " new city " ) is a city in the east of Malta.

Paola is located south of Valletta and in the immediate vicinity of Tarxien. The city was founded in 1626 by the Knights of St. John. After their Grand Master Antoine de Paule, the place has its name. Until the late 19th century, Paola was only a small place, but then grew as a residential area for workers at the nearby shipyards.

The football club Hibernians Paola is one of the most successful Maltese football clubs and previously won 15 national titles. The club's stadium Hibernians Football Ground with up to 8,000 seats, the second largest arena in Malta.
