Paul Wellens (cyclist)

Paul Wellens (* June 27, 1952 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian former professional cyclist. He began his career in 1976, without being able to celebrate notable successes in the early years. Only in 1977 he won the first professional race for themselves. His greatest achievement was the victory at the Tour de Suisse in 1978 by a margin of 18 seconds on the Swiss Ueli Sutter. This Wellens won any stage. 1985 ended his career Wellens.

Paul Wellens is the older brother of John and Leo Wellens and the uncle of Yannick and Tim Wellens. He was trained as a primary school teacher.
