Paula Newby-Fraser

Paula Newby - Fraser ( born June 2, 1962 in Harare ) is a triathlete from Zimbabwe and the most successful athlete in this discipline worldwide.

Career

Over 14 years she was the reigning Weltbestzeitinhaberin over the Ironman distance with a time of 8:50:53, set in 1994 at Ironman Europe in Roth. On 13 July 2008, she lost that crown to Yvonne van Vlerken ( 8:45:48 ) in Roth and Sandra Wall Horst ( 8:47:25 ) at the Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt.

It has the Ironman Hawaii won 8 times ( 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996 ), which has so far managed to no other person in the world and earned her the nickname Queen of Kona. She also holds the record for most wins in a row for women ( 4 times between 1991 and 1994 ), is here, however, surpassed by Mark Allen for men ( 5 times between 1989 and 1993 ).

Newby - Fraser has won a total of 24 Ironman races from 1986 to today. Among many other awards, she was from the United States Sports Academy in the top 5 professional athletes of the last 25 years ( 1972-1997 ) selected.

In October 2005, married Paula Newby - Fraser their coach Paul Huddle - a former professional triathlete, who has worked as a trainer today.
