Petrovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Petrovo ( Serbian Cyrillic Петрово; previously Bosansko Petrovo Selo ) is a town and relatively young community of 7,000 inhabitants in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The territory of the municipality was before the war in Bosnia, a part of the communities Gracanica and Lukavac and was slammed in the Dayton Agreement of Republika Srpska.

Geography

The municipality is located in the proximity of the two municipalities of Doboj and Gracanica. The main settlements are located in the Valley of the Spreča vale. A large part of its territory is occupied by Ozren Mountains, to the Kraljica includes the highest point of the municipality.

Population

In 1991, Bosansko Petrovo Selo 2,911 inhabitants. Of these, designated as 2,695 Serbs ( 92.32 % ), 70 as Yugoslavs ( 2.39% ), 54 as Bosniaks (1.84 % ) and 100 as members of other ethnic groups.

In 2006, the Serbs constituted the majority of the residents in the community. The population was 2013 at about 7,000.

Attractions

7 km south of Petrovo is the orthodox Ozren Monastery, which probably existed since the 16th century.
