History
Riede ring is considered Celtic foundation. As " Hrodheringas " was first mentioned in 788 AD. Later, the town belonged to Hofmark Neubeuern among the barons of the Count of Thurn and Preysing. The mother parish Riedering under stood since the mid-12th century the Monastery Herrenchiemsee. Riede ring in 1818 in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, an independent political community.
Incorporations
On 1 May 1978, the formerly independent communities Söllhuben and Neukirchen am Simssee as well as parts of the disbanded community Pietzing were incorporated.

Coat of arms
The coat of arms shows on a red background a white rafters ( from the tribe of arms of the Baron von Thurn ) and a yellow Tatzenkreuz (former Canons Herrenwörth ) on waves that make reference to both the Simssee as well as on the Chiemsee.
Culture
In Riede ring has the Chiemgau folk theater, far beyond the Bavarian boundaries known folk theater, its headquarters.
