Roman Hamrlík

Roman Hamrlík ( born April 12, 1974 in Gottwaldov, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech professional ice hockey for 20 years for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League was active.

Career

Roman Hamrlík began his career in his hometown at TJ Gottwaldov, which was renamed in 1990 in AC ZPS Zlín. After good performances there, he was selected as number 1 in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Immediately he moved to Florida and played up to the 1997/98 season there for six years. At the end of 1997, he moved to the Edmonton Oilers, where he had two and a half good years. With the Czech national team, he won the 1998 gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano.

As of the 2000 /01 season he played for the New York Islanders, who had replaced him against Eric Brewer, Josh Green and a second-round draft pick. On 12 August 2005 Hamrlík signed a two-year year contract with the Calgary Flames, which won him 7 million U.S. dollars.

Hamrlík has become a two-way defenders in recent years. In his early years he played very aggressively and quickly left his position in defense.
