Rossano Galtarossa

Rossano Galtarossa ( born July 6, 1972 in Padua ) is an Italian rower who won four medals at five Olympic appearances.

Life

Galtarossa was successful already at junior level. In 1989 he won silver in the one at the Junior World Championships 1990 he won the double sculls. In 1992 he received the Olympic bronze medal in the quadruple sculls. From 1994 to 1998, the Italian foursome with double Galtarossa won four consecutive world title, but finished at the Olympic Games 1996 only the fourth place. In the 1999 World Cup, the boat missed the final and then won the B race. The following year, Galtarossa reached his greatest success with the Olympic gold medal in Sydney. In the years after Galtarossa was mostly in the double sculls at the start, in this boat class, he won at the 2004 Olympic Games bronze medal. After a break of two years Galtarossa returned in 2007 back to rowing and immediately won the Italian championship in One. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Galtarossa erruderte the silver medal in the quadruple sculls.

Overall, Rossano Galtarossa won 14 Italian league titles. 2008 after his fourth Olympic medal Rossano Galtarossa was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
