Geography

A large village St.Kilian lies on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest in the UNESCO Vessertal - Thuringian Forest.

In place Breitenbach the Vesser empties into the Breitenbach. In the village of St. Kilian joins the Eger coming from alder river Breitenbach.

History

Saint Kilian was founded as the first major municipality in Thuringia on 3 October 1991 voluntary merger of previously independent municipalities Altendambach, Breitenbach, Eger, deer creek and St. Kilian and has about 2850 inhabitants. Hirschbachwinkel became the administrative seat of the greater community.

20th century

During the Second World War had in the district of Eger 91 women and men, 27 people mainly from Poland in agriculture forced labor in the district of Deer creek.

Policy

Since 31 December 2012, the city Schleusingen is fulfilling the congregation of the parish of St. Kilian. A population of less than 3000 inhabitants made ​​this necessary addition to a now honorary mayor.

Structures

  • Adler storm, a lookout on the 849.9 -meter-high mountain eagle. In the immediate vicinity of the mare home is an information center for nature park Central Thuringian Forest.
  • In St. Kilian a late Gothic church is from 1690.

Economy and infrastructure

St. Kilian is a rural residential community with settlement of trade, crafts, tourism and other services. About 90 companies provide a total of 1200 jobs in the United municipality. Due to the attractive location of tourism plays a not insignificant role.

In the district of Eger was in the 18th century, the iron hammer Eger, among other things, the armourers in Suhl supplied with high-quality iron for the production of rifles.

Traffic

Right on the site passes the train to Friedberg Schleusingen and Suhl, which was shut down in 1997.
