Geographical Location

St.Marein Neumarkt is located about 20 km southeast of Murau.

The municipality comprises the two villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Sankt Georgen bei Neumarkt ( 558 )
  • Sankt Marein bei Neumarkt (408 )

The municipality comprises the cadastral Greuth, St. Georgen and St.Marein.

Neighboring communities

History

The municipality St.Marein was built in 1849 /50. As of 1 January 1963, also since 1850 existing neighboring town of St. Georgen was the community St.Marein incorporated in Neumarkt.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 29 workplaces with 216 employees in the community as well as 283 commuters and 96 commuters. There are 83 agricultural and forestry holdings ( including 42 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 4,583 ha ( as of 2001).

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 June 1986. Coat Description: In blue, a pale golden acanthus with a growing golden lily.

Culture and sights

The area around Pöllau used to be a pretty important locality for iron ore. Before this time, the miner's house obtained evidence.

The Lind Castle (1601 ) in the municipality St.Marein Neumarkt served during the Nazi regime as a branch ( 1942-1945 ) of the Mauthausen concentration camp. The mostly political prisoners were used for all agricultural and forestry work and road construction in the country of the community.
